The Non-Coachella Fest The Other Blogs Are Afraid To Blog About

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Your SAK correspondent seems to (hopefully temporarily) mistakenly degraded the quality of the photos he took at the WBAR-B-Q on Friday, but since BrooklynVegan seems to have been blinded by the glory that is Coachella to the exclusion of all else, the decision has been made to put up a report on the free indie rockstravaganzas happened above 100th street in Manhattan on a day that turned surprisingly cold after the sun set.

The highlight among the eight or so acts caught was likely Awesome Color, who’s record your SAK correspondent has had for a while but not-at-all absorbed. Regardless, the string-bending, amp-scrapping-and-tossing antics of the three-piece’s singer/guitarist, decked out in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers tee, were as engaging to watch as to listen to, and the drummer managed to tear through the psych-rock set with appreciably furious energy.

Spring Comes And Has The Best Oughta-Be-Todd-P-But-Ain’t Show Of The Season

WBAR, the college radio outlet for Barnard and Columbia, is having a fifteenth anniversary celebration with a fifteen-band pile-up, including Japanther, Videohippos, and most assuredly more enjoyably-skewed weirdo-rock on Friday, August 25th. Bands start at Noon.

Your SAK correspondent could go on and on and on with details, intricate descriptions of each performer, speculation as to who the “special guest” will be, but he prefers to simply direct you here for more info (scroll down the page, unless you feel like applying for spot on college radio).
