“New South Wales! Mount Kosciuszko Is Mighty!”

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Okay, that headline’s just a hypothetical song title from Sufjan Stevens‘ non-existent six-disc box set about the history, people, and government of Australia–but The Suf is currently touring down under, and just because he’s plucking his banjo on the other side of the equator doesn’t make it any less newsworthy.

Aussie blogger Oceans Never Listen has an account of a recent performance at Sydney’s State Theatre here. Sufjan’s set has expanded to include an excerpt from last year’s BQE, and, better still, he’s continuing to perfect epic, jaw dropper The Majesty Snowbird (if we had to guess, we’d say Stevens next record will be about avians, not Alabama) on his current run.
