Two Hawks Is Better Than One

In a better possible world, American audiences would know either Centro-matic or South San Gabriel. In such a world, your SAK correspondent wouldn’t have to tell his readership that the bands are one and the same, member-wise, but each release albums of different stripes (think of the relationship between Parliament and Funkadelic, but substitute white, sometimes-rockin’, sometimes-twangy Texans).

But worlds are colliding as, this June, Misra issues Dual Hawks, a double album from the prolific Will Johnson (he’s CM and SSG chief singer/songwriter) & Company, on which both CM and SSG each have an entire disc!

Europe gets the album first, plus a tour in which each “band” plays a set, but this summer Centro finally, after years of playing Mercury Lounge and Pianos, gets a shot at Bowery Ballroom.

MySpace has 10 tracks total (five from each disc): Centro-matic, South San Gabriel
