Your SAK Correspondent doesn’t understand why someone named Alfred Darlington–basically the coolest name ever–would need to record and perform under a different moniker, but that’s what Los Angeles sample maestro Daedelus does. And he’ll be playing under said appellation at two upcoming NYC dates: Le Poisson Rouge on September 7th and then at Crash Mansion on the 9th. The former is part of the Wordless Music Series; the latter is probably the best show Crash Mansion has had in a long time.
L.A. Monome-tapper Daedelus has a new album, Love To Make Music To, coming out Stateside in mid-July (those sample-hungry Brits get it first in early June), which is described in the press release as an “homage to early rave culture from the UK which he first heard in a YMCA whilst on holiday in London aged 15. ”
The first single, “Hrs:Mins:Secs,” is available for free (or as free as giving up your email address is) over here. And the album’s lead track, “Fair Weather Friends,” was also the title cut of a late ‘07, 5-song EP. The video for “Fair Weather Friends” is below:
