CASTANETS‘ CITY OF REFUGE SET FOR OCTOBER 7TH RELEASE ON ASTHMATIC KITTY

‘The result of three weeks alone in a Nevada desert motel room, City of Refuge, Castanets‘ fourth full-length for Asthmatic Kitty, blazed into the mind of Ray Raposa with the rising sun. The idea came the morning after an overnight drive with tour companions from Oakland, CA, to Las Vegas, NV; waking in the back seat to a Nevada gas station dawn, Raposa said “here,” and as the drive progressed, so did his conviction that this was where he would record the next Castanets album.
The MySpace page for Williamsburg DIY venue Death By Audio lists a show tonight by Asthmatic Kitty’s own Castanets tonight, which is corroborated exactly no where else. Is it happening?
Regardless, here’s a Casta Clearing House for you to spend the rest of your day with (after you watch Tendrils again):
Daytrotter I, Daytrotter II, Pitchfork, (Behind) Closed Doors:
Your SAK correspondent got a nifty notice the other day concerning a beloved artist, Castanets. Their latest project, Tendrils has Castermind Ray Raposa giving away all the tracks on his latest, In The Vines, for video reinterpretation by his fellow artists. “Raposa’s belief that the recorded version of the song should never be the definitive take meant that to create a standard fare music video was counter-intuitive to spirit of the album,” so says the Asthmatic Kitty email. The goods are up at Pitchfork.tv until May 16th and includes contributions from Dirty Projector’s Dave Longstreth and Phosphorescent, along with some rad performances from people your SAK correspondent has never heard of.
