East Village Radio Festival Not In East Village, Not On Radio, Not Really Festival

Monday, August 4th, 2008

But hey, it’s some cool bands. Good luck finding information about it on the EVR site (your SAK correspondent couldn’t find any), but there does seem to be some info out and about regarding this Saturday, September 6th jam down at South Street Seaport. The fascinatingly diverse line-up includes Vivian Girls, Flying Lotus, Awesome Color, and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, only one of which (pictured) is from New York, and none of which are based in the East Village.

The Non-Coachella Fest The Other Blogs Are Afraid To Blog About

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Your SAK correspondent seems to (hopefully temporarily) mistakenly degraded the quality of the photos he took at the WBAR-B-Q on Friday, but since BrooklynVegan seems to have been blinded by the glory that is Coachella to the exclusion of all else, the decision has been made to put up a report on the free indie rockstravaganzas happened above 100th street in Manhattan on a day that turned surprisingly cold after the sun set.

The highlight among the eight or so acts caught was likely Awesome Color, who’s record your SAK correspondent has had for a while but not-at-all absorbed. Regardless, the string-bending, amp-scrapping-and-tossing antics of the three-piece’s singer/guitarist, decked out in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers tee, were as engaging to watch as to listen to, and the drummer managed to tear through the psych-rock set with appreciably furious energy.
